Online Journalism Awards 2022

General Excellence for a Large Newsroom – one of the most prestigious awards in journalism and a victory that recognizes the full contributions of our entire staff.

National Murrow Award + Webby Honoree 2022

Season 2 of A Beautiful Resistance, Jeneé Osterheldt’s multimedia series on Black joy, received a prestigious National Murrow Award, a Webby Honoree, and was nominated for a New England Emmy Award. Jeneé was also nominated for an Emmy as a host.

Evan Allen’s hauntingly personal narrative Under the Wheel won the distinguished Ernie Pyle Award for Excellence in Human Interest Storytelling.

One of the top prizes in all of journalism, Jeneé Osterheldt, our star culture columnist, has won for opinion writing for the unique way they “explore America’s complicated, often brutal, relationship with race with a clarity that demands your attention.” 

Gerald Loeb Awards
2022

The Globe was named a finalist in two categories for the distinguished Gerald Loeb Awards. The Lobster Trap, our exploration into how the warming waters of the Gulf of Maine are affecting the commercial lobster industry, was recognized in the Feature category, and Business columnist Shirley Leung was selected for commentary. 

Rhode Island Press Awards

Globe Rhode Island staff received 27 Rhode Island Press Association awards for their coverage of news and features in Rhode Island. The awards recognize outstanding work in 2021 by journalists throughout the Ocean State.

Telly Awards

A Beautiful Resistance, a multimedia series centered on Black joy and curated by Boston Globe culture columnist Jeneé Osterheldt, won awards in the Culture and Lifestyle and D&I categories. The Tellys honor excellence in video and television across all screens.

Edward R. Murrow Awards
2021

STAT received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in large digital journalism category for its coverage of COVID-19.

The Boston Globe’s video team won for Hard News in the large digital news category for “The Virus’s Tale,” a documentary tracking the roots of the coronavirus pandemic in Massachusetts.
